Dear Member
The annual general meeting (AGM) 2024 will be held on Saturday 2nd November 2024 at Allengeni, Plot L63 (Portion 28) Leeuwenkloof (access from Hartebeeshoek Road).
Our previous AGM was held on 24th February 2024 at Allengeni. Instead of a zoom or WhatsApp meeting we decided a lot has happened this year and we are able to report back on two pretrial meetings that were held after our February meeting. Given the material progress we would like to share this in an open forum and invite dialogue.
Notice to members
Notice is hereby given that the twentieth ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the members, the 26778 Land Claim Action Group, will be held at 10h00 on Saturday, 2 November 2024. The meeting will be held at Allengeni, Plot L63 (Portion 38), Leeuwenkloof (access from Hartbeeshoek Road).
Agenda
- Welcome and prayer.
- To confirm a quorum of members is present.
- To read and approve the minutes of the nineteenth annual general meeting (AGM) held on 24 February 2024. Draft minutes of the AGM will be available on our website www.broederstroomlandclaim.co.za.
- To receive the report of the Chairman (current status of the claim, probable developments and the way forward in the forthcoming year), which includes report back on the last 2 (two) pretrial meetings.
- To receive the report of the Treasurer (Financial information and statistics together with consideration and approval of annual financial statements (AFS) for the year ending 31 August 2024.)
- To elect committee members and to approve those co-opted during the year.
- To consider the proposal that a subscription of R300 – R400 per property should be levied for the year ending 31 August 2025.
- To receive and answer questions (any questions arising that cannot be answered in the meeting will be answered as soon as possible thereafter in a newsflash).
- Conclusion and thanks.
Note:
- A member entitled to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting may appoint a proxy to attend and vote in his/her stead. The appointment of a proxy is important because, for the meeting to be valid, there must be a minimum attendance, and proxies are deemed to count towards the number of members in attendance (the required quorum).
(Proxy forms are available on the website www.broederstroomlandclaim.co.za – under the menu item “DOWNLOAD DOCUMENTS”).
- Your nominations for committee members should be forwarded to a current Committee member. Nomination forms are available on the website www.broederstroomlandclaim.co.za
- If there is any matter you would like discussed at the AGM, please contact a Committee member.
- The LCAG constitution states that Annual Financial Statements (AFS) must be made available to members. For the past few years, the AFS have not been freely distributed because the Committee believes that the contained information is sensitive and that it should not fall into the hands of the claimants. If you wish to receive a copy of the AFS please ask a Committee member.
- The Committee comprises Leon Scholtz (Chairman), Peter Viljoen (Deputy Chairman), Pedro Carvalho (Treasurer), Di Potgieter (Secretary),
Peta-Ann Mc Bean, John Franklin, Elsabé Heystek (representative for Estate D’Afrique) and Pierre Venter.
- Where the above matters are updates to the recent previous newsflashes, then, for clarity, they should be read in conjunction with them.
- Tea and coffee (self-service, from an urn) will be available free of charge. A boerie roll and a can of cooldrink, at a cost of R75, will also be available.
As a formality I should like to record that the opinions stated above are my own and are made without prejudice to any legal or any other position that may exist insofar as the Broederstroom Land Claim is concerned.
Groete
